Photos
Which photos should I take of rental defects?
NewRent editorial team · Last updated 3 October 2026
Take at least two photos per defect: an overview showing where it is and a close-up showing it clearly. Good light matters more than an expensive camera.
Overview and detail
The overview shows the room or item, the close-up the defect itself. Together they are unambiguous.
Practical tips
- Use daylight, flash only if needed
- Place a reference object (coin, tape measure) for scale
- Avoid blur – take an extra photo
- Don't edit or filter photos
- The capture date usually stays stored in the image file
